Hi,
If you still have the old cluster and both have the same part number, you can swap the eeprom memory from the old cluster to the new one.
If not, the eeprom memory in the new cluster needs to be reprogrammed with the correct mileage.
You need a soldering iron and a suitable eeprom programmer top do this.
I definetively recommend also changing the capacitor in the top right corner, because ist causes a lot of faults
If you have questions, feel free to contact me
Best regards
Alex
PS: when we drove through the rockies from Calgary to Vancouver in 2019 we've seen quite some T4

The eeprom memory in the new cluster is a surface mount chip that is very small about 3mm by 3mm and 8 solder points.
If I could get the eeprom chip off the old cluster and put it on the new one would that work without programming it?
Is there any other way to get the odometer updated on a new cluster that reads 0km I have read that you can change the reading if it is 100 km or less to the new reading but only once.
maybe you can hook it up to a signal that makes it think you're going a million km an hour for a short while
Where does it get the signal from? Is it at the wheel ABS signal?
I don't think it's coming from the ABS (that has 4 sensors and is serves a different purpose).....according to the famous -- but unfortunately german-only -- "t4-wiki" it should be pin 7 of the cluster's connector. https://www.t4-wiki.de/wiki/Kombiinst…6_bis_08.2F1998
That said....this was meant more as a joke (sorry for not being helpful ). Before you really start playing around with that, give it a couple of hours to see if someone here with a better understanding of the clusters trys to stop you
You cannot get fast enough to quickly reach the desired mileage.
By the way: the signal is generated at the sensor g22, which is located at the gearbox
Changing the mileage with the help of a OBD Interface is only possible on the newer blue clusters, so the easiest way should be exchanging the eeprom.
Thanks for the help going to start to practice unsoldering and soldering very small surface mount chips better not drink to much coffee.
Can practice on old cluster just not the eeprom chip until I get really good.
